A little over a week ago I told my friend that I had a feeling that “something good was gonna happen this week” and since then I have suffered flop after flop. I left my pair of summer shoes, yes the ones I gave a glowing review about in a previous newsletter, at the Ace Hotel and it took two weeks to track them down and get them back. I also got bad news about something, showed up to a job that I didn’t realize was canceled, and just have generally been annoyed with everything. But also in the last two weeks I took my first boxing class and now, I am obsessed. So here’s to taking it out on the bag, this flop filled week (at least both Dodger games I went to we won).
Recs to fill a flop void:
The boxing class I go to is Rumble in West Hollywood taught by a man named Nicki Hustle and its truly the best thing I’ve done for myself in months. I workout a lot too, so this is saying something. I don’t think I’ve ever been this pumped about a class since I used to take a hip hop dance class at the Sweat Spot (RIP). However I have been informed through email and Nicki Hustle himself that this location will be closing soon so if anyone has a good boxing gym I am on the lookout.
My friends and I are always desperate to watch a Dodger game somewhere new and last Friday night we went to Far Bar (sorry to those outside of LA) in Little Tokyo. Anytime Shohei hits a home run, you get a free shot of sake and he hit two home runs that night. It was such a fun experience if you’re looking for a good Dodger bar in LA.
My hair has felt so straw-like lately so I have decided this is my summer of hair health. I’ve never really been someone to buy a nicer shampoo but now that I am growing it out, it seems time to… figure this all out. Right now the closest I’ve gotten to fixing it is leaving a mixture of Everyday oil and Rosemary oil in my hair twice a week and I think it is doing something? We can circle back in a month.
Speaking of summer, it is time for me to make my annual return to making a huge pasta salad and slowly eating it over the week. I even was good and brought it the Dodger game and didn’t spend a dime at their concessions. I make a really simple one and it’s just: mini peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, a shallot, can of chickpeas (the ones in cumin and parsley from TJ), mozzarella balls, pepperoncinis, farfalla pasta, red wine vinegar, olive oil and a bunch of herbs. Highly recommend!!
My last rec of the week is to brew your coffee or espresso over a Trader Joe’s Tangerine Cream bar :)
