This week’s newsletter is a little reflection on my 48 hours in Vegas. I love Vegas and have been there for work, for family and for fun. It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to go feral on the strip with friends so this weekend was perfect. It was an easy breezy drive, although will be flying next time, and being able to shut off from the world for 48 hours to be locked into a smoke filled carpeted room was actually exactly what I needed (and I was able to walk away $250 richer). These last few months I can only describe my state as “idling”- nothing particular bad is happening but also nothing good to note. I needed solid time to tuck away my current anxiety over needing a job and figuring out how to deal with my birth family stuff to override this plateaued state and this trip delivered. I feel more renewed than I did in the days leading up, and hopefully my watch will not alert me with this message for awhile.
There was one glaring loss on this trip: at a crucial point on night two, a sort of do or die moment to rally for the night, we were served the most heinous glasses of martinis. The martini itself was… fine but it came in such a small glass and the collective awareness of these over priced shot glasses of martini really soured the vibe. We did turn it around but at what cost ($25 per tiny minuscule glass). Sometimes it is about presentation- give us the big glass to clink and hold steady in our fingers. Do not give us what you would hand over to a child to drink their orange juice. The food was good though.
My big rec of the week comes at you from none other than Trader Joe’s: this chocolate frosted yellow cake that I easily ate in two sittings (and we all know this cake only requires a fork, no need to cut and slice it on a plate).
That’s it! I know I promised part two of my phone call but between the trip and some last minute work stuff I had to push to next Wednesday. Remember if you want to read anything in that series it is behind a paywall so you can update your subscription here. Thanks and see you freebies next friday!
